Formula E 2014/2014 Race Calendar

The inaugural calendar was proposed to the FIA during its World Motor Sport Council in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and will run from September 2014 to June 2015. Beijing will have the honour of hosting the world’s first fully-electric race while London is set to stage the season finale (Round 10) on 27th June 2015.

Three new venues have also been added from the original list of cities which was announced earlier this year (March). Uruguay’s picturesque beach resort of Punta del Este, the glamorous harbour of Monte Carlo and one of the world’s leading financial centres Hong Kong. These replace Rome, Rio de Janeiro and Bangkok which will instead be considered as candidate cities for the coming Formula E seasons.

After the opening round in Beijing, the 10 teams and 20 drivers of the FIA Formula E Championship will remain in Asia for Rounds 2 and 3, with Putrajaya, the federal administrative centre of Malaysia on 18th October 2014, followed by Hong Kong on 8th November 2014.

From here, the series heads to South America with Round 4 in Punta del Este, Uruguay, on 13th December 2014 before starting the New Year in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for Round 5 on 10th January. The series then heads to North America for Rounds 6 and 7 with Los Angeles on 14th February 2015 and Miami on 18th April 2015.

The season then moves to Europe for the final three rounds beginning with Monte Carlo, Monaco, on 9th May 2015 followed by the German capital of Berlin on 30th May 2015 where the former airport of Tempelhof has already been revealed as the circuit location. The inaugural season then reaches its climax in London, UK, on 27th June 2015.

The provisional calendar will now be considered by the FIA before being finalised during the December FIA World Motor Sport Council.
Alejandro Agag, CEO of Championship promoters Formula E Holdings, commented: “We’re very excited to be revealing our provisional calendar today and thankful to all the cities that have agreed to host our Formula E races, as well as those that had shown interest. Since launching the Championship last year we have received formal offers from more than 25 cities all over the world making choosing just 10 very difficult indeed. Today’s provisional calendar sees us race in the heart of some of the most well-known cities in the world providing a fantastic backdrop and showcasing electric vehicles in their favoured urban environments. We will now focus on finalising the design of each of the circuits as well as working closely with all our partners to ensure we deliver each of these events in the most sustainable way possible.”
Agag added: “To be in this position with one year still to go until the first race is a testament to the interest Formula E is generating around the world and the commitment cities have shown to clean mobility and sustainability, not to mention all the hardwork undertaken by our Operations Team. Today is a very exciting day for the future of motorsport and we can’t wait for the first race to begin!”

All Formula E events will feature a free practice session, qualifying session, one-hour race and live music concert taking place in a single day (Saturday) in order to minimise disruption to the city and its surrounding areas. Precise circuit layouts for each venue will be revealed at a later stage but all will use city-centre locations. Tickets for the first rounds will go on sale in 2014.

Formula E is a brand new FIA championship featuring Formula cars powered exclusively by electric energy –representing a vision for the future and serving as a framework for research and development around the electric vehicle. For the first season only, all 10 teams – each with two drivers – will compete using the new Spark-Renault SRT_01E car, unveiled earlier this month at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Powered - FORZE VI

The FORZE VI is a hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle created by a foundation that comprises about 70 students. Most of these students study at the Delft University of Technology. The team is multi-disciplinary; all the faculties are represented by their students and the team is also managed by students. Apart from the technical and managerial challenges, maintaining public relations is done by students as well. To assist in this field, the team has a cooperation with the Rotterdam Business School.

The Forze VI is (the 6th vehicle created by FORZE, but first of its kind to be closed wheel) set to compete against gasoline powered opponents in the Catherham Cup. The goal is to set a lap record for hydrogen fuel cell cars at the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Based on the Lotus 7 chassis, the VI utilizes a push rod with carbon links suspension and weighs roughly 860 kg's. It's powered by a combination of electric motors rated at 100kW (135 hp) with a boost power of 190kW (258 hp). Top speed is 210 km/h. It's fuel cell system is a Ballard FC Velocity MK1100 stack with Forze balance of plant hardware & software. The drivetrain is created using Planetary Gears (ratio 1:3:66).

Hydrogen reacts with oxygen from the air. During this reaction, electricity and water is produced. The electricity is used to power the electric engines, the water is used to cool the brake system. Excess water is evaporated instead of routed to the ground or held within additional tanks on board.

Complete 100 kW fuel cell system developed by Forze.

How to create electric energy

"In the race cars of Forze a PEM fuel cell is used. In the fuel cell stack, many cells are combined to create an efficient system. The cells are stacked upon each other. Fuel cells come in many varieties; however, they all work in the same general manner. They are made up of three adjacent segments: the anode, the electrolyte, and the cathode. Two chemical reactions occur at the interfaces of the three different segments. The net result of the two reactions is that fuel is consumed, water and/or carbon dioxide is created, and an electric current is created, which can be used to power electrical devices, normally referred to as the load.

In the Forze racecars PEM fuel cells are used (Proton Exchange Membrane).
On the anode side, hydrogen diffuses to the anode catalyst where it later dissociates into protons and electrons. These protons often react with oxidants causing them to become what is commonly referred to as multi-facilitated proton membranes. The protons are conducted through the membrane to the cathode, but the electrons are forced to travel in an external circuit (supplying power) because the membrane is electrically insulating. On the cathode catalyst, oxygen molecules react with the electrons (which have traveled through the external circuit) and protons to form water in this example, the only waste product, either liquid or vapor. A schematic image shows the working principle of a cell."

I will be sure to follow up on this seeing as how they are technically an FSAE team. However, going from open wheel to closed wheel is a daunting task, even for 70 members. A new competition based on this chassis would be amazing!

DTP - Day 11 of 28

DTP : "Dramatic Transformation Principle. It's a combination of reps, weights, and workout techniques that will radically alter your physique. Give Kris four weeks, and he'll give you more muscle. You will get bigger. You will get stronger. You will get ripped."

I probably should have posted up my stats and the program I'm currently taking before posting my progress pics/info eh?

Here is the program:

Kris Gethin's DTP: 4 Weeks To Maximum Muscle

My starting weight: 175lbs
Current weight: 180lbs
Goal weight: 200lbs

These photo's were taken exactly 7 days after I begun the program (last week Sunday), however due to my busy schedule with exams and assignments, I was only able to get around to posting updates now.

Body is getting bigger/stronger, but it does not stop here. I will continue to push the limits of my physical and mental capabilities!

DTP - Day 1 of 28

I started a new program today. My goal is to completely transform myself, both physically and mentally in hopes of attaining some sort of enlightenment in regards to life.

By applying what I learn in the gym (via discipline and hard work) to real life applications such as school, work and relationships, I'm absolutely positive I will be able to make a difference for the better.

Anyways,  here are some shots of my recent food purchases + how tiny I look right now. (I'm posting from my phone so I can't edit the order of pictures/add in captions.)

Push it to the limit!

Determination

"It is one thing to idolize heroes. It is quite another to visualize yourself in their place. When I saw great people, I said to myself : "I can be there""

Fate..

“Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn't something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something inside of you. So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn't get in, and walk through it, step by step. There's no sun there, no moon, no direction, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like pulverized bones. That's the kind of sandstorm you need to imagine.

And you really will have to make it through that violent, metaphysical, symbolic storm. No matter how metaphysical or symbolic it might be, make no mistake about it: it will cut through flesh like a thousand razor blades. People will bleed there, and you will bleed too. Hot, red blood. You'll catch that blood in your hands, your own blood and the blood of others.

And once the storm is over you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won't be the same person who walked in. That's what this storm's all about.”
